Skookum Mountaineers Anniversary Wash - Saipan Beach

As I was roused from my deep slumber by movements outside our tent, I saw Skookums Gani, Allan and Bogs already preparing breakfast because while our initial plan was really to assault Mt. Tangisan at 0500H, no one seemed to have informed our guides of our said intention. Hence, I went back to sleep a little more (or was I just too sleepy to dress up haahaa).

It was already 0600H when we woke up, just when the other Skookums were busy cooking chicken noodle soup and fried smoked fish (tinapa). We also have salted eggs with tomatoes on the side. It was indeed a breakfast to behold.

To think that this can be filled with water...:)

As the sun began to lord over the horizon, we decided to break camp. At 0930H, we were already on our way back to the registration area since the trailhead leading to the Duglo Falls is located just adjacent to it. The sun was already beaming hot when we arrived at the residential area and we finally arrived at the registration area 30 minutes from the time we left Pangasaan Lake.

Initially we decide to just hike after lunch but Kapitan Omeng informed us that Duglo Falls has now started to dry up. So he advised us not to proceed anymore. Heeding Kap's advise, we instead decided to proceed to Saipan Beach and take a dip in its cool waters. So we bade farewell and promised to go to the falls at another time.

As soon as we arrived at Saipan Beach, we settled into the same hut that we stayed in the first time we went there last December. It was noticeable that there are already huts in the river itself, perhaps signs that summer is imminent and throngs of locals and visitors are expected to visit the place.

We Skookums then alternated in trying the "balsa" and ventured in the deeper parts of the river. Of course, a trip to the Saipan Beach would not be complete unless you bath in its raging rapids.

We really had fun during this Anniversary Climb. Thank you Skookums for a year of climbing together. Hopefully, we can continue to spread our love for the outdoors and do greater deeds along the way.
